Montclair's student gov't stops the press

Most college newspapers, such as the one I used to work on at another state college in New Jersey, are funded in large part through the Student Government Association. This does not mean, however, that the newspaper is a puppet of the SGA, free only to publish what the SGA deems acceptable, nor does it give the SGA the right to take away the newspaper's freedom to print, on paper or otherwise, an issue.

The writer of the previous comment seems awfully sure of himself -- I wonder, though, if (s)he has read the comments of his/her own administration or those of the Student Press Law Center in various articles printed about this matter (by papers the Montclair State SGA, fortunately, has no control over). The SGA's actions here have been extremely foolish, and the longer they persist the worse the outcome is likely to be for those responsible.

Albuquerque City Council District 6 candidates answer questions

Convenience is the key to improvements in the transportation system. Studies show that people will use transit when there are disincentives for car travel - high costs of fuel, pain at the pump, too much traffic congestion and high costs for parking. Albuquerque and other parts of the nation are beginning to experience these disincentives; however, they have not been coupled with enough increases in convenience. Transit that operates early in the morning to late at night, that is available every three to five minutes on major arterials and every 10 to 15 minutes from feeder streets; better bus shelters and workplace incentives to use transit; more guaranteed ride home programs and 24/7 trip planning information; focused public education campaigns are the keys to increasing transit ridership and improving the system.

Vote in a poll: Should Richard Roberts return as the president of ORU?

Oral Roberts University's executive vice president of academic affairs and provost offered his resignation to the board of regents on Thursday if the board decides to keep Richard Roberts as president.

Mark Lewandowski wrote regents Chairman George Pearsons that he "would be pleased to continue to serve" in his job if Roberts resigns or is not reinstated, according to his letter first obtained by The Associated Press.

Roberts has been on a leave of absence as ORU president since Oct. 17 while the board and independent auditors investigate allegations made in a lawsuit that he and his family misused ORU and Oral Roberts Ministries money and resources.
