Fortis transformation reflected in new top management structures

Fortis will restructure its top management as of 1 January 2008.[1] The Executive Committee will be recomposed and responsibilities redistributed. A Business Executive Committee - which will replace the Fortis Management Committee - will be installed and will operate in closest collaboration with a Group Executive Committee. Taking into account the Fortis managers who have already taken up responsibilities within ABN AMRO, Fortis is convinced it now has the adequate management structure in place, not only to guarantee the successful integration of the acquired businesses, but also to develop Fortis as a whole.

1. The Group Executive Committee will consist of:

* Jean-Paul Votron, CEO and Executive Director (Audit reports directly to the CEO);

* Herman Verwilst, Deputy CEO and Executive Director (Human Resources, Public and External Affairs, Business Transformation Office report to the Deputy CEO);

* Gilbert Mittler, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Finance, Risk and General Counsel;

* Filip Dierckx, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Merchant Banking;

* Lex Kloosterman, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Private Banking, Asset Management, Investor Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility;

* Camille Fohl, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Retail Banking and for Global Branding and Communications;

* Peer van Harten, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Insurance and for Real Estate;

* Alain Deschênes, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Technology and Information Services, Operations, Facility, Purchasing and Process Improvement.

Have you heard the one about the Alexandrian police band ...

“Grace" is the obvious standout track for its sheer emotive excellence. Commercially, Fused comes two decades too late, but Iommi has never unleashed the kind of flood as he does here, making this his personal creative high-water mark.

Nancy Agram — Ya Tabtab, Wa Dalaa (I Pamper And Spoil)The Lebanese singer is as adorable as ever on the cover of her latest album, and every track is distinctly Agram-esque: light and playful, easy to sing along with and fun to dance to. Two of the songs are already hit singles: “Moagaba, Moghrama" (I Like him, I Love him) was the jingle in a recent Coca-Cola commercial, so people knew the words long before the album's debut late last February.

The title track is currently topping the charts, and in it Agram complains to the audience about her partner's constant need for attention — something to which all girls can relate.

Small Business Q&A

Name: Richard Applebaum.

Age: 52.

Where do you live? East Syracuse.

Occupation: I'm a structural engineer.

In a few words, describe what the business is: We do structural engineering, landscape architecture, historic restoration, building envelope, special inspections - a lot of things, but it's all related to building design, repair and restoration. We sort of specialize in forensics of why walls are leaking, why there are also problems with the facade and also the roofing. It seems to be a fast-growing part of our business.

What have been some of the more recognizable projects? Just in the last five or six years, we worked on the Crouse College building at Syracuse University, which was built in 1888.

OLBERMANN: With this energy of change, this new sort of larger than usual of this energy of change among the electorate at all ends of the spectrum seemingly, whichever of those means of change is considered the minimum, whether it‘s Clinton, Edwards, Obama, is there any construction in which it would not be enough to energize the voters this fall and there could be Republican actually presenting change as if they‘re had been significant change from the Republicans more recently than 1980?

MADDOW: Well, I think it‘s going to be hard for a Republican to run on a change platform in the general. I think they can run on the change platform among themselves, that‘s amusing to see Mitt Romney run as the change candidate for example.

OLBERMANN: I‘m different than my father and mother.

The Faubus defense

No immunity for telcos or the Administration.. if you want to spy on an American citizens anywhere, anytime.. get an individual warrant from a FISA judge not the AG or some randomly appointed person with no accountability or structure, that's all.. just get an individual warrant from a judge.. NO basket warrants, NO data mining.

Call your Senators and tell them the constitution is far more important than their pac money this time.

Analysis: no easy option for non-believers

While this may not be a problem for the lapsed faithful, for non-believers it is not an easy option. To secure a place in many oversubscribed faith schools, parents will be expected to go to Church, preferably with their children, every week for at least two years. And that is before the child has set foot in the premises.

Buying into the catchment area — an option that a majority of parents surveyed say they would consider — is not easy either as houses near the best schools can cost up to an extra £100,000.

Keating, McClelland at Suharto funeral

Mr Suharto, 86, was laid to rest beside his wife Siti Harinah Suharto, in their family mausoleum on the outskirts of Solo, in Central Java following his death in a Jakarta hospital yesterday. Mr McClelland, who is acting Foreign Minister while Stephen Smith is in the United States, said he was unable to stay longer for scheduling reasons, but will return in April, when he will also visit the US and UK. The pair attended today's funeral with Australia's Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer. "It expresses our sympathy to the Indonesian people on the loss of a leader of very long standing,'' he said. "It respects the office that he held and effectively confirms the Rudd Government commitment to an ongoing, strong and supportive relationship with Indonesia.'' "We recognise also his achievements ...
